Kellerkind — The Pictures

Hot on the heels of his recent full-length “Mindtrip” issued last year on SVT, label stalwart Kellerkind turns in a fresh four-track transmission primed for open-air summer epics and extended sessions of soulful uplift. Named after his father’s band, “The Pictures” rustles across Marco Biagini’s warm sound palette far and wide, from velveteen shades to hair-raising momentums, through entwined polyrhythmic structures and incendiary synth dash.

Title-track “The Pictures” engineers a lush melange of left-of-centre guitar riffs, rattling drums and emotional piano, soon making room for jaunty keyboards to bloom with uncluttered amplitude. Second is “Dunun”, a tropical-hot joint brewing fevered batucada drums with a muscular bass, roaring electro swing and eerie demon voices surfacing from deep out a mystic forest. An overwhelmingly emotional house number, “Hope” aims for the stadium with its hectic crescendo guiding us across equally dark and luminous meanders of sound, full with a pulsating flow of piano stabs, oscillating synthlines and haunting coloratura. Scanning the gap betwixt trip-hop, nu-jazz and shuffling house, closing cut “Early Morning” drips with hazed-out suavity and soul, making it the perfect jam to bump out while serenely emerging from an all-too chill, dreamy slumber.
