Clocking back in on Stil vor Talent, here goes Cioz with his newest delivery, ‘These Accordi’.

Taking its name from the Italian word for ‘agreement’ – which also stands for ‘chords’, the idea for the track actually came about when Alessandro’s attention was caught by the sound of an asphalt paver in the street. He then sampled it and processed it to produce the bassline, which he says was “full of character and texture”.

On the conceptual side, Cioz explains the track aims to explore the balance between the notions of agreement and disagreement, an enslaving loop one needs to break out from to find this actual state of balance.

The metronomic tension that animates ‘These Accordi’ throughout has the pendulum swinging sharp and clean, from proper jacking techno patterns to lithe EBM-ish bass music, onto liquid house hypnotism in the home stretch. Deftly shifting gears, from robotic jack to more organic layers and folds, Cioz has us traversing a wealth of moodscapes in one bumpy, elating jaunt.

A further jagged and wonky number, ‘Move On’ treats us to a mix of heavily processed ’80s style guitar riffs and stealth bass assault, echoing the dissonant pulse of ‘Accordi’ through a collage of static-filled wobbles, radical syncopations and FX-strewn solos to better explore the emancipatory nature of Cioz’ lead theme: looping our way out of the girdling status quo.
